One of the most fun-filled and exciting activities of the month can be attending an athletic event. Cheering for the favorite team, hoping for their success, feeling their pain, and rejoicing in their victory creates memories that last a lifetime.
It’s known for its ability to silence, or interfere with, the expression of specific genes. Applied to HIV, it could possibly interfere with the negative expressions of the virus, essentially curing it by stopping it from working.
Learning to enjoy watching a baseball game, however, may take a little understanding on the part of the spectator.
Baseball hinges on a cowhide-covered, cork-centered, yarn-spun ball that is sewed together with exactly two hundred and sixteen stiches of red thread. It is the baseball itself that provides the foundation to the game.
A team with an easily recognizable logo and a history of success is the University of Miami. Their football team’s jersey was rated number seven by Complex Art+Design “The 25 Best College Football Uniforms for 2012.”
Over the years, they have produced 5 players that were inducted into the College Football Hall of Fame. Donny Anderson later played for both Green Bay and St. Louis back in the late 60′s and early 70′s.
If a person really wants to be amazed while watching a baseball game, they should try fielding some grounders, catching a pop fly, and hitting a baseball before going to the ball park.
Heralded as one of their greatest football players by the director of athletics, Dave Perks, an effective wide receiver, enjoyed a career with the 49ers, Saints, and Houston Oilers from ’64 to ’73. Hub Bechtol, the first of the five, was a wide receiver that played for the Steelers and Baltimore Colts in the late 40s.
A sports team with an awe-inspiring, bold, well-designed uniform will solidify a fan’s loyalty and support. For Hurricanes fans, a t-shirt modeled after such an exquisite uniform would absolutely affect their backing of the team they love even more.
Their other sports have represented their school as well. Their women’s basketball team claimed the national title back in 1993 and the men’s team continually appears in the NCAA tournament.
They attack challenges with ferocious zeal. They face opponents with the expectation of victory. Sports teams feed off of this brand of psychology. They do everything in their power to obtain that treasured victory.
The allure of the ball park extends beyond the sport being played at its epicenter, and a family or group of friends can pass a summer’s eve with fondness and pleasure as they explore the different aspects of spectating at a ball park.

There has been information coming out over the last couple of days that Major League Baseball is planning on doing away with the pensions of anyone that is not in uniform. That is a immense group of employees that are included in that statement; perhaps every employee from the usher all the way up to the president of the team. People seem very quick to jump all over this and bash Bud Selig for this but the truth is that he is following the model set forth by the majority of private sector jobs. Still, that is a big blow to the employees.
I doubt that the commissioner would eliminate the pension program without setting up an alternative retirement program, more than likely a very comprehensive program. They will not simply bring to an end the pension plan without offering an alternative. Pension plans are expensive to employers so it seems suitable to offer an alternative if you invest your cost savings back into employee salaries. If the goal is to line the pockets of Major League Baseball and all thirty owners, that would be bad. Very bad! If I were an employee of Major League Baseball I would be a little worried but not yet in panic mode, I expect that they will be offered a fair replacement.
Like I said earlier, pension plans are rapidly becoming extinct in the business world. It’s probably only a matter of time before the government takes a close look at the pension program they offer to their employees. Twenty years from now it very likely won’t be the same as it is today and I don’t think that is necessarily a bad thing. Just because employers don’t offer a pension plan, or change a pension plan to a secondary retirement plan, doesn’t mean they are a crappy employer. It simply means there may be a more valuable way that benefits both sides, the employee and the employer.
There is little doubt that Major League Baseball is a cash cow that prints money around the clock for all team owners. Even the more modest markets such as Tampa are profitable; however, the gap in profits between all clubs is substantial. If the current arrangement is not beneficial to those profits then, like any other business, they have the right to make it better for everyone involved. I’m sure that each individual club will have the opportunity to set their own plan within a certain set of standards, the downside to that is that subsequently some clubs will be much better employers to work for than others. The cream will rise to the top.
In the end, the right conclusion will be made. One that is good for the employees and employer. By default this will put more money into the pockets of the owners and the league itself, but that is not truly a bad thing. As long as that money in reinvested back into the labor force then everyone has done the right thing morally. Whether they like it or not, Major League Baseball has an obligation to make certain that every employee is taken care of prudently; how they get there should not that big of an obstacle.

Every player at some point in their career is going doubt their ability to perform on the baseball field. It does matter if you?re a seasoned pro, or it is your first day playing little league, it only takes one swing and miss to get to you start thinking about what it is you are doing wrong at the plate. Unfortunately for most players, their baseball batting woes become a part of their everyday performance instead of simply having a bad swing or bad day once in awhile. So how can most players overcome their everyday batting slumps? Well believe it or not, it starts and ends with developing a strong positive psyche.
So what it is that will cause most players to spiral so dramatically into a baseball batting slump? The answer plain and simple is confidence! Now, in my younger years, I was under the impression that you couldn?t teach confidence. I was 100% wrong! The fact of the matter is, confidence is no more than a positive psychological state where you understand what you need to do to correct the problem or better yet, repeat a the right solution. Today you are going to learn two very powerful baseball batting techniques, that are going to teach to ?repeat the right solution? and avoid any future batting slumps for the rest of your career!
For starters, I want to let you know that it doesn?t matter what level of play your player may be at. Several prominent professional like Alex Rodriguez who has had abysmal performances in the playoffs up until late, or Tejada who threw his bats over the dugout a few years back suffer from these same issues . On the personal side of things, a minor leaguer who is loosing confidence after 9 very successful seasons in the pros recently contacted me. With that in mind, it?s safe to assume, that those who aren?t at the professional level, little leaguers, high school players, and college players are struggling with the same batting battle.
The long and short of a baseball batting slump comes down to two mental states and the wrong type of focus. Let?s start with focus and work backwards. Everywhere you look players are judged based on their statistics. As a result, players are taught from a young age, that good day at the plate involves a hit, regardless of how they got that hit. On the contrary, a bad day at the plate is going 0 for, even if every time up they hit a hard line drive. We want to see high numbers in the stats column, and as a result, a player?s confidence is derived from seeing the results instead focusing what it is they need to do to get there! This is precisely why so many players love to get a hit in their first at bat, because they no matter how they perform the rest of the game they at least got one hit!
On the contrary, if a player doesn?t come up with that elusive first hit, self-pressure begins to climb. You see, players don?t see each individual swing and each individual at-bat as a single entity. They pile everything together and believe that one bad swing or a bad at-bat determines their day! It is the Gamblers Fallacy of hitting! As a result, players begin to fall into the trap of trying to swing there way to a hit, instead of sticking with a solid game plan and focusing on what they can control, which is themselves. Emotions will run high and get the best of each player and before they know it, they have lost their power to make good-quality decisions at the plate.
Which leads me to our first baseball batting slump breaker; create positive proactive action steps for every thought that enters your mind. The mind can only be in one of two states at any given time, emotional or logical. In short, the emotional state leads to result based focused and is more reactive than proactive. The logical state is the more intelligent state where you will be able to see all angles to the issues, and choose the path that will lead to the best results. If you want to get a hit, how will do it? If you don?t want to get out, what can you do to take a better swing?
Simply telling yourself you are going to get a hit, or believing you are going to get a hit isn?t enough. You must be down to the T specific about how exactly you are going to get that hit. For example, do you need to ?Drive your backside down harder,? or ?Finish high towards the field of play you want to hit the baseball?? Pick out the positive specific actions that will give you best chance to succeed on your very next swing and say them to yourself.
Continuously create sayings of what you need to do better, or what you need to repeat on your very next swing! Just like muscles, the mind must be trained to be positive. Whenever you catch yourself focusing on the end result, take the time to refocus and define exactly how you are going to accomplish that result. This also holds true for season goals. Season goals cannot, and will not be accomplished with focusing on your ?now? goals which brings me to Mental Baseball Training Technique #2: make your season goals your now goals.
This brings me to baseball batting slump breaker number 2, live in the now with your goals! Every action should carry three very specific goals you want to accomplish. For instance, three goals I had for myself when I played were: drive you backside hard, drive you hands to the inside part of the baseball, and finish towards the field of play you want to hit the baseball. Some might even say these are three positive action steps I needed to accomplish every swing! I knew that if I accomplished these three goals every swing, then at the end of the year I would end up with the statistics I was aiming for in the first place. The bottom line is you will not be able reach any of your long term goals if you don?t accomplish the ones you have today!
Pretty easy right! Wrong! Just because this seems like something you can instantly do tomorrow, check yourself during your next batting practice or game. I would wager you think more about the results you want to get than you think! The mind is just like a muscle, you have to train it out of being negative, and teach it to be positive. When you recognize that you are beginning to focus on just getting a hit or getting out, take a step out, take a deep breath, and tell yourself three positive action steps you want to complete during your next swing. The first time you begin living in the ?now? you will be amazed at how easy and fun baseball batting becomes and how easy it is to perform!
Every year in late September the excitement builds for baseball fans around the country. The pennant race is coming to a close, and with only a few games left, it’s hard to tell if your favorite team will be in the playoffs or not. I am a firm believer that playoff baseball is the best entertainment in sports today. Between seeing a new pitcher every night, and the anticipation placed on every pitch, you can feel the excitement in air.
Now that I no longer play, I can step back and really appreciate what it takes to be successful at that level. After a long 162 game season, players must battle through 3 more series to take home the most coveted prize in baseball. And if that’s not enough, the “playoff atmosphere” will make these games the most mentally and physically demanding baseball games of the year.
As a collegiate player, I had the opportunity to play in just over 100 baseball games a year. And I think speak for all college baseball players when I say after a long grueling school season and a demanding summer season we were in need of some much needed down time. I nearly cringe as I think about adding another 62 games to that already tiring schedule.
Achieving and maintaining success they have earned is a lifestyle commitment. Although their may be a designated period for “training camp” or “pre-season” to prepare, everyday is test of your current ability, and a learning experience for the future. You see, success is a product of your mental and physical habits. This means that every action you take will have one of two results, create a good habit or create a bad habit. Consequently, success never takes a day off.
Saying that, you do not have to work on you batting mechanics or pitching skills every day. Sometimes a successful day involves a day of rest and stepping away from baseball to rest your mind and your body. Choose a game plan and find a routine that makes you the most productive and advances your skills the quickest.
As a true competitor, you have to ask yourself one question before every action you take, “Will this put me in the best position to succeed?” Consequently, if you ask yourself this questions enough times on and off the baseball field, you will begin to notice that you choices in life are going to have to change. After all the questions and underlying answers, you are going to realize you are lot lazier than you thought.
If you’re a professional baseball player, you probably have your performance plan down pat. However, if you are a young athlete working towards your baseball goals, you may still be under the mindset that success on the field and off the field are two different things. If you are a selfish person off the field, chances are you’re a selfish player off the field. If you are easily distracted in the classroom, chances are you are easily distracted on the baseball diamond.
Take the time to view your situation from the outside in and surround yourself with people that will help you achieve your goals. If your peers are brining you down, find new peers. If you need a more knowledgable batting instructor, find him. Do everything in your power to change your situation for the better.
If you want to be the best batter, you have to train like the best batter. Spend time developing and redesigning your batting training sessions so you are consistently getting the most out of your batting practice. Perform drills that are not only fun, but are necessary. If you want to be the best pitcher, or fielder, read up on a new way to throw an off-speed pitch and add it to your repertoire. The more education you receive and the high focus your repetitions you perform in practice, the better you will become.
By having a broader perspective, you give you mind and body more tools to effectively solve problems. Batting roadblocks are more easily solved when you have 4 or 5 different ways to solve the problem. Without that fourth or fifth perspective, who knows how long you would struggle in the batters box before your performance begins rise.
If you are reading this and you are thinking this all sounds great, but where do I start? Begin with your goals. What do you really want to accomplish in your upcoming practice, game, season? How would you like play? How you feel if you were to perform that way?
The most common trap for young baseball players is trying to take shortcuts. Whether it is on the field or off the field, shortcuts lead to failure. A shortcut will do exactly what it’s meant to do, it will shorten your playing career and cut your talent at the knees. If you are constantly taking shortcuts, then you never fully invest in what your doing. It’s impossible and at the end of the day you will end up with a bunch of would of, could of, and should of’s.
The morale of the story is fully invest your time what you want to accomplish and make a lifestyle choice to be successful. Without it, you will be one of the many baseball teams the play in league, but never make the playoffs. If you want to shine, then shine! Write down your goals, write down daily action steps that move your forward, and go accomplish your goals!

Baseball equipment is not nearly as essential to success as the ability of the player using it. It won’t make a bad player awesome or a amazing player terrible, however it undoubtedly can help. With that being said, baseball equipment is very expensive so it is important that if you’re going to be spending a substantial sum of cash that you spend it on the very best products possible for the price. Keep this information in mind on your next trip to the sporting goods store:
Gloves: The first thing you will want to know for you to make an wise purchase is what size glove you will need. Youth baseball gloves usually are 8 to 12 inches, adult gloves measure anywhere from around 10.5 to 12 inches, and professional baseball gloves never measure more than 12 inches. After that you will need to consider what position you will be playing. Catchers in addition to first basemen have their own particular mitts for their positions. Infielders gloves (10.5 to 11.5 inches) are shorter than outfielders gloves (12 to 12.5 inches.) Second basemen and shortstops’ gloves usually are a bit shorter than a third baseman’s glove.
Bats: The most significant thing to give some thought to while buying a bat is comfort. Make sure you feel comfortable by taking a couple of swings. Another great test is holding the bat out to your side using your non-dominant hand so the bat is parallel to the ground for one minute. If your arm wobbles a lot during the minute, it’s probably too heavy. If you can do it easily for more than two minutes, it’s more than likely too light. Remember, you do not want your bat to be too light because how far you can hit the ball is dependent on not merely your bat speed, but also your bat’s weight. The heavier the bat, the farther the ball will go, all else being equal. Always make sure to verify with your coach or league director to learn the bat weight and length rules for your league!
Batting Gloves: There really is not much to selecting a pair of batting gloves. Choose a pair that feels comfortable at a good price. A nice pair of batting gloves should not cost much more than $25.
Training Equipment: There are many different baseball workouts and pieces of training equipment so it is hard to give specific buying advice. You do not have to spend a good deal of money in order to get good training equipment. One example is, in most cases a hitting tee and some baseballs will probably be just as effective as a very expensive hitting device. Furthermore, a lot of the time you will be able to find far better deals on the internet through sites such as Amazon.com than at a bricks and mortar business.
Like I mentioned before, you don’t need the best gear in order to be a superior player, but having effective baseball workouts and training products will certainly make you a better player.
Are you interested in taking your game to the next level? Come visit our website “best baseball workouts” for helpful information as well as baseball workouts and training products for sale that will improve your game tremendously!
Fantasy baseball, in all it’s incarnations and iterations may seem a little unwieldy to the uninitiated, but it’s really not that difficult to participate in, just requires a little time and persistence to get started. Many camps seem to have a myriad of rules, regulations and procedures to follow. However; it wouldn’t have the following it does, if it wasn’t easy enough for the average beer swilling baseball fan to engage in. Read more
