Get Better on Training, Goal Setting, and Playoff Baseball For Every Person
Every year in late September the excitement builds for baseball fans around the country. The pennant race is coming to a close, and with only a few games left, it’s hard to tell if your favorite team will be in the playoffs or not. I am a firm believer that playoff baseball is the best entertainment in sports today. Between seeing a new pitcher every night, and the anticipation placed on every pitch, you can feel the excitement in air.
Now that I no longer play, I can step back and really appreciate what it takes to be successful at that level. After a long 162 game season, players must battle through 3 more series to take home the most coveted prize in baseball. And if that’s not enough, the “playoff atmosphere” will make these games the most mentally and physically demanding baseball games of the year.
As a collegiate player, I had the opportunity to play in just over 100 baseball games a year. And I think speak for all college baseball players when I say after a long grueling school season and a demanding summer season we were in need of some much needed down time. I nearly cringe as I think about adding another 62 games to that already tiring schedule.
Achieving and maintaining success they have earned is a lifestyle commitment. Although their may be a designated period for “training camp” or “pre-season” to prepare, everyday is test of your current ability, and a learning experience for the future. You see, success is a product of your mental and physical habits. This means that every action you take will have one of two results, create a good habit or create a bad habit. Consequently, success never takes a day off.
Saying that, you do not have to work on you batting mechanics or pitching skills every day. Sometimes a successful day involves a day of rest and stepping away from baseball to rest your mind and your body. Choose a game plan and find a routine that makes you the most productive and advances your skills the quickest.
As a true competitor, you have to ask yourself one question before every action you take, “Will this put me in the best position to succeed?” Consequently, if you ask yourself this questions enough times on and off the baseball field, you will begin to notice that you choices in life are going to have to change. After all the questions and underlying answers, you are going to realize you are lot lazier than you thought.
If you’re a professional baseball player, you probably have your performance plan down pat. However, if you are a young athlete working towards your baseball goals, you may still be under the mindset that success on the field and off the field are two different things. If you are a selfish person off the field, chances are you’re a selfish player off the field. If you are easily distracted in the classroom, chances are you are easily distracted on the baseball diamond.
Take the time to view your situation from the outside in and surround yourself with people that will help you achieve your goals. If your peers are brining you down, find new peers. If you need a more knowledgable batting instructor, find him. Do everything in your power to change your situation for the better.
If you want to be the best batter, you have to train like the best batter. Spend time developing and redesigning your batting training sessions so you are consistently getting the most out of your batting practice. Perform drills that are not only fun, but are necessary. If you want to be the best pitcher, or fielder, read up on a new way to throw an off-speed pitch and add it to your repertoire. The more education you receive and the high focus your repetitions you perform in practice, the better you will become.
By having a broader perspective, you give you mind and body more tools to effectively solve problems. Batting roadblocks are more easily solved when you have 4 or 5 different ways to solve the problem. Without that fourth or fifth perspective, who knows how long you would struggle in the batters box before your performance begins rise.
If you are reading this and you are thinking this all sounds great, but where do I start? Begin with your goals. What do you really want to accomplish in your upcoming practice, game, season? How would you like play? How you feel if you were to perform that way?
The most common trap for young baseball players is trying to take shortcuts. Whether it is on the field or off the field, shortcuts lead to failure. A shortcut will do exactly what it’s meant to do, it will shorten your playing career and cut your talent at the knees. If you are constantly taking shortcuts, then you never fully invest in what your doing. It’s impossible and at the end of the day you will end up with a bunch of would of, could of, and should of’s.
The morale of the story is fully invest your time what you want to accomplish and make a lifestyle choice to be successful. Without it, you will be one of the many baseball teams the play in league, but never make the playoffs. If you want to shine, then shine! Write down your goals, write down daily action steps that move your forward, and go accomplish your goals!

Purchasing the Right Baseball Equipment for You
Baseball equipment is not nearly as essential to success as the ability of the player using it. It won’t make a bad player awesome or a amazing player terrible, however it undoubtedly can help. With that being said, baseball equipment is very expensive so it is important that if you’re going to be spending a substantial sum of cash that you spend it on the very best products possible for the price. Keep this information in mind on your next trip to the sporting goods store:
Gloves: The first thing you will want to know for you to make an wise purchase is what size glove you will need. Youth baseball gloves usually are 8 to 12 inches, adult gloves measure anywhere from around 10.5 to 12 inches, and professional baseball gloves never measure more than 12 inches. After that you will need to consider what position you will be playing. Catchers in addition to first basemen have their own particular mitts for their positions. Infielders gloves (10.5 to 11.5 inches) are shorter than outfielders gloves (12 to 12.5 inches.) Second basemen and shortstops’ gloves usually are a bit shorter than a third baseman’s glove.
Bats: The most significant thing to give some thought to while buying a bat is comfort. Make sure you feel comfortable by taking a couple of swings. Another great test is holding the bat out to your side using your non-dominant hand so the bat is parallel to the ground for one minute. If your arm wobbles a lot during the minute, it’s probably too heavy. If you can do it easily for more than two minutes, it’s more than likely too light. Remember, you do not want your bat to be too light because how far you can hit the ball is dependent on not merely your bat speed, but also your bat’s weight. The heavier the bat, the farther the ball will go, all else being equal. Always make sure to verify with your coach or league director to learn the bat weight and length rules for your league!
Batting Gloves: There really is not much to selecting a pair of batting gloves. Choose a pair that feels comfortable at a good price. A nice pair of batting gloves should not cost much more than $25.
Training Equipment: There are many different baseball workouts and pieces of training equipment so it is hard to give specific buying advice. You do not have to spend a good deal of money in order to get good training equipment. One example is, in most cases a hitting tee and some baseballs will probably be just as effective as a very expensive hitting device. Furthermore, a lot of the time you will be able to find far better deals on the internet through sites such as Amazon.com than at a bricks and mortar business.
Like I mentioned before, you don’t need the best gear in order to be a superior player, but having effective baseball workouts and training products will certainly make you a better player.

Fantasy Baseball – Taking a Full Swing
Fantasy baseball, in all it’s incarnations and iterations may seem a little unwieldy to the uninitiated, but it’s really not that difficult to participate in, just requires a little time and persistence to get started.
