If your a guy turning 40 or you have a man close to you turning 40 years, you may be wondering what would be an appropriate gift. 40 is often considered a significant milestone, and should be celebrated accordingly. For some it brings many fond feelings of the youth, for others regret, and for some and excitement for the future. While these are all very different perspectives, I believe there is one type of gift that’s bound to make a guy with either of these views happy on their big day.
The best 40th birthday gifts for men, is to send them back to school. Not permanently of course, as I’m sure by they time their 40 they have lots of other responsibilities. But only part time, and for something they’ve never done before, either because of time or procrastination, or simply life getting in the way. I got a present like this once, and even though it wasn’t for my 40th, it was one of the best presents I ever received.
A chance to learn something new is exciting at any occasion. But, couple that with what may feel like a time for old age, and your sure to rekindle the youth in anyone.
Scuba Diving Lessons
Yep, this is the one I received as a gift a few years ago. It was one of those things I’d always wanted to do, but just never got around to. For anyone who loves being around the water, there’s nothing like spending a little time with the fishes. It’s peaceful, tranquil, and not that hard too learn. A few classroom sessions, some studying, some pool sessions, and finally an open water dive. Team this up with a warm tropical vacation, and you’ll both have a great time.
Flying Lessons
Not really my cup of tea as a gift, as heights make be a little anxious. But for some, conquering a fear of heights may do wonders for their getting old doldrums. I had a brother who decided it was the best way to conquer his fear of heights. A little extreme I thought, but if your man is the extreme type, then this could be the perfect present.
Sailing Lessons
This is one sure to please. I don’t think there’s a man alive, that hasn’t dreamed of captaining his own ship. Even if it was a small aluminum fishing dingy. There’s nothing quite like the feeling of sailing, becoming one with nature as you feel the wind and sea spray on your skin. Any size boat will do. The more athletic type may appreciate the smaller craft, while sailing a bigger boat can provide a great sense of accomplishment as well.
Hang Gliding Lessons
Sticking with the more adventurous category, there nothing like giving the gift of flying to that 40 year old guy. While I’ve never done it myself, I could only imagine the exhilaration, of swooping over the country side and taking in a birds eye view. Even if your guy never gets to go solo, hang gliding with and experienced guide would be a gift they’ll always remember.
Mountain Climbing Lessons
Take this gift as high as you like. The nice thing about mountain climbing, is there are all types of mountains for whatever skill you think you can handle. Even starting with something small and easy to climb, will foster confidence and youth for anyone on their 40th year.
