Buy the time, your lucky enough to turn 40, you really don’t need another tie, fishing rod, Hawaiian shirt or birthday cake. I mean, hey it was hard work getting this far, you may as well make it a day / night / weekend to remember. Memories last longer than stuff, never exceed their warranty, and never go out of style. What every man wants for his 40th, is a chance to make some new memories. Save the ties for next Monday, for tonight let’s make a ruckus!

So, what kind of party is appropriate for a guy turning 40 years old? I’m going to assume we’ve grown out of the drunken, bachelor party stage (at least most of us have), and try to come up with some truly original memory making parties here.  As 40th birthday party gifts for men go, these are hard to beat.

Suprise Party

There’s nothing like the old standby, the 40th birthday surprise. A few dozen or so close friends, and 40 pink flamingos (or garden gnomes) on the front lawn. If the season is right, and you can do it outside, get one of those big party tents, and pitch it near the pool. Hire a band or at least a DJ, and warn the neighbors (or even better, invite a few over). It’s a gift sure to be talked about for years.

Riverboat Cruise

Even if you don’t live on the river, I’m sure there’s one within an hours driving distance or so. A slow paddle wheel up a gentle river is always a good time. There’s usually plenty of food, drink and music to go around. No need to warn the neighbors here. I mean, how much trouble can you get on a boat?

Medieval Times

What guy doesn’t want to be king for a night. Even if your not big into these places, there are alternative venues. Lots of big cities have old castles you can rent out for the night. Make it a themed costume event where everyone dress like in days of lore. Drink grog out of big chalices, and give the gift of royalty for an evening or so.

Magical Stuff

Everybody thinks magicians are only for kids parties. But, it doesn’t have to be like that. While most magicians can do kids stuff, the really good ones will keep the adults entertained as well. Getting sawed in half is a 40th birthday gift that everyone can enjoy. You can pretend your 2 twenty year olds for a few minutes.

Beach Blanket Bingo

Just like in those old 60s beach movies like Annette and Elvis. Relive your past on a nice beach, with a big campfire, and waves lapping at the shore. Throw in a little grub, brew and games.
