This was a brilliant review!!! I looked at some other reviews and they were lacking in detail. You review had everything I wanted to see!!!

I rated this 5 stars and faved it.

The figures I got from Canon’s website (shown here in “still shots/video minutes”) are 340/720 under Alkaline and 600/840 under NiMH Rechargable AAs – the camera has an onboard charging system so that you don’t have to remove the batteries. I don’t have the camera myself, but hope to get it this Christmas. As such I cannot give you any information concerning differences in charging times outside the camera versus inside the camera. I’ve been told to go for NiMH AA’s with the highest maH rating.

is the batetry life on this camera good

There’s no Canon converter for this product, but I don’t know about other companies. Doesn’t it already go wide and long enough though?!

Does this camera supports a polarizer 52 mm and other filters?

    @rml695
    Hey..
I didn’t understand what you said. Onboard charging system? What is that? I’m suprised I own this camera and not know about anything like this..

Newer models like the 580EXII and 430EXII should be fine… as for older ones, you’d need to check with Canon…

Gordon, what’s the word on compatible flash guns with this unit? Would the full Canon range work?

  13. Aitcl on December 24th, 2008 4:52 pm

I love all of their reviews.
I’m so stoked, I’ve already ordered this camera and it should be arriving tomorrow! What a fantastic non-dslr. I must agree with gaur101guy – I believe it to be the best non-dslr on the market.
    (:

I have it on my now submitted Christmas list (so now I wait). LOL

  15. gaur101guy on December 24th, 2008 4:52 pm

Oh ok..i’ll surely check it out..but i dont thing it is for charging..
    Btw..this camera is a beast..dont wait..just buy one..
I think it’s the best non-dslr at the moment..

If you look on the side you will see a DC-In port. I think this may allow you to charge your NiMH batteries while they are still in the camera. Check the manual though. What do you think of the camera? I like it from what I’ve seen of it and I think it’s the best “hybrid” camera for videos & stills to date.

  17. wiktorpanaktuningfre on December 24th, 2008 4:52 pm

I would take a Canon Powershot SX 1 IS (is a bit better than the SX10 IS)

  18. kilimats02 on December 24th, 2008 4:52 pm

I agree with everything you added :-) a very good upgrade from S series

  19. jamack66 on December 24th, 2008 4:52 pm

Thank you for a very informative and clear review. Few comments about sx10: The sound in movie mode was very clear, almost the same as in the demonstration. Benefits of the the tilt- and flipable screen, when taking “creative” photos, is unquestionable. And the fact, that you have to pop up flash manually is way to better than that it pops up (in auto-mode?) every time, when camera thinks you need a flash.

“Love the flower lens hood!!” I new to this. What does that do anyway? Great video btw.

  21. cameralabs on December 24th, 2008 4:52 pm

Weeell, the hood is fairly small, so you may be ok with the popup flash so long as you zoom in a bit. But yes, for the best results, a Speedlite is the way forward.

  22. djt2012 on December 24th, 2008 4:52 pm

cool thanks! guess I’ll be using a speedlite with the hood then.

  23. cameralabs on December 24th, 2008 4:52 pm

Nope, it’s designed to not vignette, although you’ll probably need to remove it when using the flash.

  24. berbecboy on December 24th, 2008 4:52 pm

can we mount an teleconverter on SX10 IS?

  25. kilimats02 on December 24th, 2008 4:52 pm

And if you can’t wait until next year and have friend in Europe or Japan, do like I did :-)
SX1 IS takes amazing HD movies, It is one of the first TRUE hybrid camera on the market
