What Are The Top Selling Digital Cameras?

If your looking to buy a new digital camera, but the last time you bought a camera, they used something called film your likely confused as hell. Anyone under 19 probably has no idea what I’m talking about, or even why that first sentence is funny. OK, maybe it wasn’t that funny, but I’m just a simple blogger, not George Carlin. Now I’ve probably lost the under 35 crowd, but . . . . oh never mind, lets talk cameras.

Can’t decide on a camera? . . . Personal Camera Finder

If in doubt, following the masses can be a good strategy. There is strength in numbers. Plus it’s a whole lot easier of a decision. And one I’ve advocated in the past, if your not big on technical stuff, or you simply don’t have the time to spend days shopping. There are plenty of technical aspects you could look at when comparing digital cameras. Megapixels, field of focus, white balance, image noise, sensor size, lens quality and so on, just to name a few. If your a bit of a geek, or simply like impressing your friends with your knowledge of all things technical, then knock yourself out. Research camera specifications till your blue in the face.

On the other hand if you just want to get your purchase over with, just take a look at a list of the top 10 or 20 best selling cameras and pick one that’s in your budget. Or looks nice, or is on sale, or is the same that your buddy / brother / mother / sister / uncle just purchased. It doesn’t really matter. Chances are pretty good you’ll get a really good camera.

Digital cameras have become so common place, and prelavent that it’s hard to find a bad one amongst the top rated digital camera lists. It really is hard to make a bad choice. Canon, Sony, Pentax, Nikon, and the rest have been battling it out so fiercely, that prices have dropped drastically, and features included have gotten silly. So much so, that the average photographer likely uses less then 25% of the features of their camera.

Given that camera reviews can be subjective, and it’s hard to know what to believe and who to trust, a top selling list is especially beneficial. There’s nothing subjective, or questionable about who the top sellers are. Either one model sold more then another or it didn’t. Period. Amazon has a best selling camera list, that is updated on an hourly basis. Hard to get much more current then that.

If your not sure about the cameras listed on Amazons best sellers list, then spend some time reading the customer reviews. It’s really one of the best things about shopping online at Amazon, You can get some honest reviews from people that actually bought the camera your looking at before making your own purchase. Make sure you have your BS filter on, as some of the “customer” reviews can be misleading. But by and large, I’d say 80% of them are on the money. If you read enough of them, you’ll start to form a consensus of whats true and what isn’t.

There are a few things to keep in mind when buying a camera that will stack the odds a little more in your favor though. Stick to your budget. Don’t get persuaded into spending more for some obscure feature you’ve never heard of. Chances are, you’ll never use it.

Know what you want in a camera. Give some thought to how, where, and when you’ll be using your camera. Decide what’s important to you. Portability, image quality, durability, and flexibility. If all you take, is pictures at weddings, then you’ll want a different camera then someone who plans to take pictures on their ski vacation to Aspen.

Each camera has it’s own strength and weaknesses. Smaller point and shoot cameras are easy and portable, but their image quality is not always the best. More expensive SLR cameras can take incredible pictures, but come with both heftier size and expense. Not just the camera body itself, but all the features as well. Entry level SLR cameras can be a nice compromise between these two extremes. Models like the Canon Rebel, Olympus Evolt, or Nikon D40 come to mind here. They’re all around the $500 mark.

Whichever camera you pick, be sure to get it from a reputable retailer, with a generous return policy. Amazon has one of the best. Things do occasionally go wrong, even with the best products. Picking a good seller can be as important, as picking a good camera.

Here’s a lttle something below to help you out. This carousel of cameras contains just a few of the top selling digital cameras. It’s updated every hour. If you click on one of the cameras you’ll get more detail information on that camera. The little arrows at the bottom right will spin the cameras around, to let you choose different ones.

It’s not that hard, so hurry up, make your choice, and start taking pictures.
